Delivery to Malta: what you really need
Malta is an EU member state, so bringing a puppy from Italy does not require extra-EU customs paperwork like the AMICUS/TRACES systems used for Switzerland. EU rules on non-commercial movement of pet animals apply.
EU Pet Passport
Issued by an official veterinarian, it lists the animal's identification, owner, vaccinations and treatments. It is the document required by EU Regulation 576/2013 for intra-EU movement.
ISO 11784/11785 microchip
Mandatory before the rabies vaccination. It must be readable with standard European scanners. If the chip is not ISO-compliant, the owner must provide a compatible reader.
Valid rabies vaccination
Administered only after 12 weeks of age and at least 21 days before travel to Malta. The puppy can therefore travel from about 15 weeks of age.
Air transport to MLA — Malta International Airport
Direct or connecting flights from Italian airports (Milan Malpensa, Rome Fiumicino, Catania) to Malta International Airport in Luqa, about 8 km from Valletta. The puppy always travels in the cabin with our staff — never in the hold as cargo.
